I once dreamt of visiting Venice Italy...and then I married an Italian. His Nonna Adele lived in the Venice Region of Italy in a small hamlet called Contarina. It was not too far, and we decided to take a short trip while in the area. Wow...how breathtaking this Ancient City is. It almost does not feel real, but it is. It's colorful, and Artful, romantic, and intriguing. It's like being dropped in to a maze of sorts with bridges and underpasses...it's quite fantastic. You get around with water Taxi's or the public-transit vaporetti which is a commuter bus so to speak. Along the Grand Canal, and St. Marks square there are thousands of Tourists, but if you venture deep in to the city away from the crowds, you can find a quieter lifestyle which is quite attractive. If one has an opportunity to visit Venice...they should do it soon. The city suffers from Aqua Alta, a high tide flooding which is slowly eroding the city. On one of our last visits, be experienced this high water, and it was NOT fun. I can only imagine how magical this city is during Carniavale, Mardi Gras.
